Anglo-Indian Ebony Box

£580.00
sold out

Ebony box made in Indian or Sri Lanka c.1910 but continuing a style that fused European and Indian motifs and forms. South Indian stone carving, Portuguese, and Regency English all had an influence. The carving is particularly crisp and pleasing, the box is not as straight lined as a European example might be, but I prefer it for that! Probably for sewing, but put it on a desk with some note cards and stamps in it for all those thank you notes you want to write, and it will become a pleasure to send them off whenever you need to drop someone a line! Reserve one compartment for storing odd loose buttons that you don’t know whence they came!
