Shibayama Laquer Panel

£240.00

These Meji period lacquer panels were painstakingly made in Japan for export to the West as artworks. It is inlaid with bone, horn, and shell, coloured like a painting. There are some elements missing, and these works usually had ornate carved frames, the price reflects the lack of these, but to my taste this is much more charming in both it’s edited restraint and visible construction.
